Kinkamon Aalto is situated on a beautiful place by the lake and serves as an event and banquet hall. It is open by request.  There are also available sauna and nature program services. The building is an integral part of the industrial history of Varkaus and was designed by Alvar and Aino Aalto.

Kinkamo was originally designed for a weekend cabin for the Warkaus Factory Club. The association’s general meeting decided on the construction of a weekend cabin on May 12, 1937. On the basis of a name competition, the cabin was named “Kinkamo” in 1939. Kinkamo, located in Kopolanniemi, was designed by Alvar Aalto and his wife Aino Aalto. Alvar Aalto was commissioned to prepare drawings for a weekend villa in 1937. The interior design plans were prepared by Aino Aalto.

The long building has a spacious covered terrace, a large open living area and fireplace, a bedroom wing, kitchen, drying room and a servant’s room. The building’s horizontal line is highlighted with horizontal panelling and narrow horizonta windows in the bedroom wing. When designing Kinkamo, the architect couple played with historical motifs in an unusual manner. A traditional rural style is visible in the open sleeping alcoves, which are furnished with fixed bunk beds. The large dining table and separate chairs, as well as the lighting, combine functionalism with medieval impressions in a very unique way.
