Cross-country ski trails
There is a network of about 80 km of track for cross-country skiing; 28 km of this is a lighted track. The trails are maintained in good condition during the ski season, making with worthwhile to come to ski in Varkaus even from a longer distance.

The nicely sized and well-lighted Varkauden Keilahalli provides everyone with great entertainment regardless of age. In addition to eight bowling lanes, you can practice your pool skills or enjoy coffee and snacks at the Keilakahvio café. You can also rent the facilities for a variety of events.

Kämärin jääurheilukeskus
(Kämäri Ice Sport Center)
Kämärin jääurheilukeskus consists of two ice hockey arena and an artificial skating rink. Competitions and practice drills are held in Kämärin jääurheilukeskus, but the facilities can also be reserved for private use.

Ilopisara swimming hall
Located in the centre of Varkaus, Ilopisara swimming hall provides fun activities for fitness enthusiasts and holiday makers of all ages. The swimming hall includes a fun pool section, a well-equipped gym and a relaxing sauna. There are also water aerobics classes and courses held at Ilopisara.

There are in total 13 beaches in Varkaus where swimming is possible. Popular beaches include Hertunranta in the immediate vicinity of the centre of Varkaus, and Kankunharju on the other side of the city.

Winter swimming
The place in Varkaus for swimming in an ice hole is located in Tyyskä, along the road the leads to the Vaaputtajien maja hut. Varkauden Latu ry is responsible for maintaining the ice hole.

(Central Field)
There are a sand-gravel field, a grass field and a track in the area of the Keskuskenttä. Apart from these there are also two ice rinks and a jogging track outside of the field area.
