Located in Lake Haukivesi, which is part of the Saimaa Lake system, Linnansaari National Park is a paradise for boaters with its hundreds of islands and large open waters. It is great for day visitors as well as campers and boaters. It covers an area of 96 km² and is maintained by Metsähallitus (National Forestry Office). In Linnansaari the valuable island nature and beautiful scenery of Finnish lake district are protected. The famous Saimaa Ringed Seal lives there sheltered by islands, and it is the nesting area of one of Finland’s densest populations of ospreys.
The Linnavuori lookout point is a high rock with an eye-catching view of some of Finland’s most beautiful lake landscape. The sharecropper’s cottage of Linnansaari has been renovated into a tourist attraction and visitors to its slash-and-burn farm can empathise with the lifestyle of our forefathers from the era of subsistence farming.
